Be Your Own Coach is filled with exercises and practices that you can use to coach yourself. In this section we will continue to offer you more practices to work with the ideas in the book.

If you happen to be a corporate coach, these practices will provide you with alternatives to use in coaching courses you may be teaching using our book. You may also use these practices with your in-house coaching clients.

If you are an independent professional coach, you can use these practices as a supplement to the ones offered in the book.

Coaching practice related to the movie Jerry Maguire.

Coaching Practice:

  1. Jerry had courage it faltered occasionally throughout the film, but he had it. Find your courage re: speaking up. At least once per day over the next two weeks, practice speaking up when something really matters to you. Find a way to respectfully say what you are thinking.
  2. Jerry had a vision. Do you? At least once a day over the next two weeks, work on crafting a vision for your life from now on. What can you create?
  3. For the next year, map out one thing per quarter that you want to learn, do, experience, engage in. For example, what do you want to get smart about? For that quarter, read everything you can about the topic. Or, what sport would you like to learn? Or what craft would you like to learn? Find classes that can teach you. Make your choices, and then get moving!
  4. If you have a desire for something bigger than what can be accomplished in 3 months, what is it? Would you like a new degree? A new place to live? Think through what that might be and begin the steps to learn how to achieve this dream. Go for it!
