Be Your Own Coach is filled with exercises and practices that you can use to coach yourself. In this section we will continue to offer you more practices to work with the ideas in the book.

If you happen to be a corporate coach, these practices will provide you with alternatives to use in coaching courses you may be teaching using our book. You may also use these practices with your in-house coaching clients.

If you are an independent professional coach, you can use these practices as a supplement to the ones offered in the book.

Coaching practice related to the movie Garden State.

Coaching Practice:

  1. For the next week, notice and write down in your journal the feelings you are feeling. What feelings come often? What feelings surprise you? What feelings do you push away? What feelings do you accept?
  2. After the first week, notice your level of acceptance of all the feelings that pass through you. What happens when you accept how you feel? How does it feel to not judge your feelings?
  3. Notice when you are feeling the zest of life. What brings this on? Is it a matter of will or acceptance? Or something else?
  4. Andrew had bought into being responsible for his motherís handicap and judged himself accordingly. We the viewers know that Andrew was not responsible. Yet he focused on that and forgot about all the qualities that made him a wonderful, unique person. This week, make a list of all the things about you that you love. Instead of judging what is wrong with you, practice self-acceptance.
